AMD DTX is a completely new formfactor on the PC market designed for the really small and convenient PC systems. AMD’s new SFF standard is yet to arrive on the retail market, but now we’ve received reports that indicate that the DTX standard will have a broad support among motherboard manufacturers and that loads of new motherboards will be presented during Computex 2007. Some motherboard manufacturers have such great faith in AMD DTX that the mini-ITX and micro-ATX formats may have to surrender to the new format on the growing SFF market, according to them. It wasn’t long ago we reported about how Intel’s interest for the mini-ITX platform was increasing, a platform that according to some motherboard manufacturers is too weak for larger multimedia systems.
“Since the DTX platform reduces size by eliminating two PCI Express slots and the fact that it uses a mainstream power supply standard and an open CPU structure, the platform provides more design options for motherboard makers.”
In other words, we can expect several hot SFF platforms the upcoming months and we’re eager to see how Shuttle will react to this. Shuttle more or less founded the SFF market as we know it today, but things are evidently about to change.
