AMD is expected to launch its tuned K8L architecture at the beginning of next year and this architecture seems to be the direct answer to Intel’s Core architecture. As the name reveals it is not a revolutionizing design AMD is working on but a further development of the current K8 architecture, still an extensive such. Many are looking forward to K8L, including us here at NH, but now AMD’s VP Hector Ruiz has revealed information about what seems to be a completely new architecture expected to arrive in 2008 and the first test models will appear in 2007. This could mean that K8L is just the start of AMD’s counterattack. The information comes from an interview published by Business Week where he among other things has said the following;

“Once again, we’re going to distance ourselves from them. The good news for customers: [Intel is] getting better, but it’s not a new architecture. We’re in the throes of finalizing the architecture we’re going to introduce next, and that’s going to be killer.”

However, speculations suggest that Ruiz is actually talkikng about the K8L architecture in the interview and that the dates simply doesn’t match the previous information. But would it be a completely new architecture we surely want to hear more about this.
