AIO(All-in-One) PCs have increased in demand, which has resulted in manufacturers bringing forth more alternatives to a market where recently only Apple used to be represented. When Apple launched the latest iMac series it had to use mobile circuits to reduce the power consumption and heat development in its thin format, and now AMD has chosen to meet the demand with specially designed GPUs for AIO computers.

A problem with AIO computers have been that there are not product categories by AMD, Intel or NVIDIA that fits. Overall an AIO computer can run more power demanding components than a notebooks, but to squeeze in a 95-125W TDP processor from the desktop segment is not a good idea with a slim design. The most obvious example once again being the iMac that uses energy effieicnt processors from desktops, and mobile GPUs to keep the heat at bay.

All-in-one PCs become more common, people getting tired of the regular cases?

AMD has chosen to meet the demand and created something in between desktop and mobile graphics cards. The new HD 6000A series is specifically designed for AIO computers and offer the same specifications as regular desktop version but with lower power consumption, which is probably thanks to hand-picked circuits, new circuit boards or both.

The first graphics cards from AMD for AIOs will be HD 6670A, HD 6650A, HD 6550A and HD 6450A and they are identical in specifications and clock frequencies with the desktop HD 6670, HD 6650, HD 6550 and HD 6450. The difference is that the HD 6000A graphics cards have lower power consumption, but the exact TDPs are not mentioned.

The new HD 6000A series will not be sold separately but is a product for OEMs to order for their AIO computers. According to AMD’s website HP and Lenovo have several models coming, which will house the HD 6000A series.
