AMD launches dual-core Llano for desktops

AMD has launched a series of dual-core Llano processors that was not available at the launch of the new architecture. The models are A4-3300 and A4-3400 that get dual-channel support for DDR3-1600, 160 Radeon cores with UVD 3 and based on  AMD’s Wintercreek core that was up until now only found in notebooks.

AMD has rolled out that last circuit of the Llano family for the desktop market, Wintercreek. Wintercreek is a circuit that consists of two “Husky” CPU cores, 160 Radeon cores, integrated northbridge and support for UVD 3, which is more or less the same functionality as AMD’s quad-core Beavercreek.

A4-3400 has two cores clocked at 2.7 GHz and 160 Radeon cores at 600 MHz. The APU from AMD gets DDR3-1600 support in two channels and 65W TDP.

A4-3300 also has two cores cores, but clocked at 2.5 GHz and 160 Radeon cores clocked at 444 MHz. It supports DDR3-1600 memory in two channels and comes with 65W TDP.

Both APUs support AMD Steady Video, AMD Dual Graphics and AMD VISION Engine, which means that there is hardware acceleration for the programs that support it. The GPU may not look that impressive with 160 Radeon cores, but hopefully they are not as limited by memory bandwidth as big brothers A6-3650 and A8-3850.

The price for A4-3400 and A4-3300 will be around 60€, and 55€. While they will hardly revolutionize the market in the lower price segments they are better options that AMD had to offer before with the Athlon II X2 series, and the integrated GPU HD 4250 and HD 4290 of 880G and 890GX that should equal these APUs in price, including motherboard.
