AMD launches new Duron

0

It is now official that AMD will launch a new version of their Duron CPU. This new Duron is codenamed “Applebred” and its primary market will be China, Latin America and East-Europe, as the demand for these CPUs is still rather high in mentioned areas.
The new processor will, just as its predecessor, be equipped with 128KB L1 cache, and 64KB L2 cache. The CPU bus is now increased to 266MHz instead of the 200MHz bus the earlier Duron’s (Spitfire and Morgan) utilized. This is one of the things Applebred inherited from the Barton core.
The new Duron processors will also be released with an integrated thermal probe as their older brother; the Athlon XP.
The true advantage of the Duron family is its price, as it is mainly directed towards the low-end market. But if the demand increases enough, we might even see this new model released in Europe.
At the moment, AMD has released two models of Applebred. These have as clock frenquencies 1.4GHz and 1.6GHz, respectively, but faster models are likely to be released later this year.
