AMD has announced two new models of its Energy Efficient lineup; Athlon X2 4450e and Athlon X2 4050e. They’re based on the 65nm Brisbane core and operate at 2.3GHz and 2.1GHz respectively, and have a 45W TDP. Overall operation is said to be up to 30% more efficient than previous Athlon X2 models. Beside the two recently launched models, AMD already has Athlon X2 4850e (2.5GHz) in its assortment. Along with the Energy Efficient models, AMD has also announced three new tri-core models, dubbed Phenom X3.

They are all based on the new B3 stepping, which means that they are capable of slightly higher frequencies and don’t have the TLB errata (not that it would’ve affected you anyway). The older B2 models (Phenom X3 8600 and X3 8400) will be phased out and be replaced by new B3 models. B2 was exclusive to OEMs though.

The three models are Phenom X3 8750, X3 8650 and X3 8450. They all sport 512KB L2 cache per core and 2MB L3 cache. They operate at 2.4GHz, 2.3GHz and 2.1GHz respectively and the MSRP is as follows; X3 8750 at $195, X3 8650 at $165 and X3 8450 at $145.

Numerous reviews have been posted around the web, and while not all of them come to the same conclusion, most of them are disappointed with the performance of the Phenom X3 series. While the additional core does scale well in multi-threaded environments and stands up well to other AMD processors, it gets beaten by Intel’s dual-core processors in a lot of the tests.
