AMD will in two weeks launch its anticipated Radeon HD 6900 series of graphics cards, to follow up the popular Radeon HD 6800 series, but already the company has listed the first mobile circuits of the Radeon HD 6000 family, Radeon HD 6300M and 6500M.

The names of the circuits are a bit misleading since the technology behind them are from the Evergreen architecture and Radeon HD 5000M family. The top model Radeon HD 6500M comes with  400 stream processors paired with GDDR5 or DDR3 memory. With the second generation mediaprocessor UVD2 there are some striking similarities with Mobility Radeon HD 5700. The clock frequency of the GPU sits at 500 – 650 MHz, while the memory is turned up to 1800 MHz DDR3 or 3600 MHz GDDR5.

Little brother Radeon HD 6300M settles for only 80 stream processors and DDR3 memory, which is nearly identical to Mobility Radeon HD 5450. The clock frequency lies at 500-750 MHz while the DDR3 memory operates at 800-900 MHz.

Even if the new 6000M series looks to support OpenGL 4.1 – unlike OpenGL 3.2 of Mobility Radeon HD 5000 – the series seem very much alike. Other features include DirectX 11, Eyefinity, and AMD HD3D. When the Radeon HD 6000M series can found in stores remains to be seen, but more companies are starting to add the new circuits to their system configurations.
