AMD has a lot on stake right now and it’s starting to look more and more like it more or less has to have something extremely good in Barcelona. According to the latest reports the trend on the desktop market has turned and AMD has started to lose market shares in the USA fast. It all comes down to the raging price war with Intel, which AMD seems to be losing. According to the same report it seems that Barcelona will not arrive in mentionable quantities until the end of the year or the beginning of the next. Although, the coming dual-core Kuma and quad-core Agena is closing in on their launch dates during the third quarter.
“While we are hearing from some sources that Barcelona is on track and will make an early debut in Q3, some server vendors have told TG Daily that they do not expect volume availability until Q4 and therefore tell customers that systems will not ship until late Q4 2007 or early Q1 2008.”
The importance of Barcelona and the coming desktop processors is hard to overlook. Unfortunately, AMD has chosen to keep quiet when it comes to these and the specific launch dates are still absent. The only thing we know for sure is that AMD is mighty pleased with the power consumption of its new processors. The performance is not known to major extent, strictly theoretical figures at best.
