Small preview imageAMD Opteron Rev. F is expected to arrive in the middle of this year and the new version of AMD’s server processor brings several big news. just as AMD’s Socket AM2 processors it is the first time we see support for DDR2-SDRAM with the integrated memory controller. Except for a new memory standard it has optimized the processor’s voltage hunger, the manufacturing process is still 90nm SOI, but Opteron Rev. F will be able to handle much lower voltages than today’s Opterons. E.g. Opteron Rev. F will be working at 2.6GHz at a voltage of 1.35v, the same as an Opteron 875 (2.2GHz) use today. This will result in considerably less heat.
