AMD has had to postpone the launch of Bulldozer longer than hoped and imagined. The four first AMD FX models will appear in September or October. New rumors suggest that the next step will come in Q1 2012, with four new AMD FX processors on the menu.
The AMD FX series will debut with two octo-cores (FX-8150, FX-8100), one hexa-core (FX-6100) and a quad-core (FX-4100) CPU and the latest launch date we’ve heard is in October.
The four models will fight with Intel Sandy Bridge on the lower half of the performance market, but also the coming enthusiast models from Intel’s Sandy Bridge-E family, a launch should happen before the end of the year.
It seems AMD has a backup in the fight against Intel’s 22nm Ivy Bridge processors that is expected to arrive in March-April. AMD will namely introduce another four FX processors In Q1 2012. We have already sighted the first models (FX-8170, FX-8120, FX-6120 and FX-4120), but now we also have an expected launch date. What the higher numbers means is uncertain, but hopefully there is a noticeable performance improvement.
