Take the fastest GPU on the market, multiply by two and install on the same circuit board. That is exactly what AMD has done with Hemlock. AMD’s first card with dual graphics circuits of the new generation will most likely be named Radeon HD 5870X2 and now the first pictures has appeared. Despite the “mere” size of Radeon HD 5870 AMD has succeeded in fitting two GPUs on the same circuit board marginally bigger than the single-GPU card.
Radeon HD 5870X2 looks to measure around 29cm (11.5″) and to supply a total of 4.3 billion transistors with power there is one 6+2 PCIe power connector, and one 6-pin PCIe connector, which is quite similar to Radeon HD 4870X2.
Pictures posted at XtremeSystems also show an European online store, Salland, with a list price of 677 euro. Though this picture is said to be from January of this year and nowhere near to be of the authentic card (and Salland has a history of premature listings…).
The pictures of the card looks about right though, even if we can’t really confirm or deny anything officially.
