AMD has turned to a growing actor on the semiconductor market to be able to reach greater production volumes of its 65nm processors. Chartered Semiconductor is the name of the company and it is stationed in Singapore and according to sources AMD has now set up its 65nm processor manufacturing at Chartered. The mass production will start during the first half of 2007 and the Singapore company will be an important cog in AMD’s machinery. In fact, 90% of AMD’s processor series will be 65nm next year. Chartered is today the world’s fourth largest semiconductor manufacturer, behind companies such as the market leading TSMC, which is starting to get worried about Chartered’s rapid growth. This will make it a lot easier for AMD to battle Intel in the future as AMD’s own capacity simply isn’t enough to keep up.
