In little more than a month AMD will unveil the first card of the Northern Islands family. Even though AMD will remain at the 40nm node the new family is expected to significantly faster than current cards, bringing AMD back on top. We have learned that AMD will drop the ATI naming for the new series, but it looks like it will also introduce a new GUI for the Catalyst drivers.
AMD will make the colors more AMD-like, while trying move away from the typical ATI colors it uses now. The new GUI will also be easier to navigate and hopefully a bit faster. We don’t have any pictures to show you yet, but the new driver shouldn’t be far off. As far as we know it is mainly the GUI that will be updated, most likely as another step to remove traces of the ATI brand.
