AMD has chosen to reveal some more about its coming Barcelona architecture. There isn’t much talk about performance though, but AMD mainly focuses on its work with improving its power-saving functions. It has namely designed its quad-core so that each core’s power consumption is independent of the rest and therefore the cores that aren’t working at full capacity can can reduce its power. It has also made optimizations within the cores so that parts of the logic can be turned off when it’s not used. Unfortunately there is little mention of the performance, only the that it will perform up to 80% better than current Opterons.
