AMD has announced that ATI Stream SDK v2.2 enables support for the next generation computing technologies found in APU (CPU with integrated GPU). The development platform from AMD, Stream SDK, now delivers a whole bunch of tools for developers including OpenCL v1.1.

We also find support for Ubuntu 10.04 and Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.5. On top of that there’s hardware support for x86 CPUs with SSE2.x and newer to let users run OpenCL applications on a large variety of CPUs. Also, better support for Linux and Windows compilations including GCC 4.4 and Windows MinGW.

Support for double precision floating number calculations in OpenCL cores will offer higher reliability for HPC and science related applications.

“The enhancements in the ATI Stream SDK v2.2 are especially important due to the support for OpenCL 1.1, which is integral to the forthcoming AMD Fusion family of APUs. These tools allow the developer community to take advantage of heterogeneous computing architectures both today and tomorrow.”
