AMD‘s plans for moving on to 65nm has once again been commented by AMD self and during a meeting in Japan it has announced that it will start making the first 65nm-based processors during the second half of 2006 and launch these during the first quarter of 2007. AMD also announced that the first 65nm processors will be a “new” Athlon 64 X2 model and hopefully this will result lower prouction costs for AMD so it can counter Intel’s aggresive prices. At the start of 2007 up to 50% of all processors made at Fab 36 will be made with 65nm technology.
