AMD has as you perhaps know launched a new series of processors branded EE, Energy Efficient. These processors is suppose to be power efficient alternatives to Intel’s new Core architecture, which puts a lot of focus on the performance/watt ratio and at AMD Zone they’ve now taken a closer look at two of these EE processors to see what their power consumptions and overclocking capabilities are. Athlon 64 X2 3800+ EE is perhaps the most interesting of AMD’s EE family as this processor has a specified TDP value at only 35W, which you can compare to 65W for the other X2 EE processors. To reach this low TDP value AMD has lowered the voltage, only 1.12v when running at 2.0GHz.
At AMD Zone they’ve done some shorter tests with AMD’s EE processors which could be interesting alternatives for e.g. a Media Center PC where power efficiency is a true virtue.
