The mobile phone platform Android is still a rare sight one most markets, but is starting to advance in the USA at least. Even phones using the Google sponsored operating system first appeared back in the last half of last year the number of phones are still relatively few, but things are expected to change in 2009. The result will be a big increase of sales and analysts boldly claim a 900% increase of shipped Android phones compared to 2008.

Even if this probably says more about the current market than the one about to emerge there is no doubt that Google’s mobile platform is starting gain acceptance from many. Apple’s iPhone is one of the biggest competitors and also iPhone OS-based phones are expected to grow by 79 percent compared to last year sales.

That’s still very little compared to the growth of the easily accessible Android operating system that is largely open source. We eagerly await the arrival of more Android-based phones.
