Case and power supply maker Antec has started a subsidiary called Soundsience that focuses on audio and multimedia products. Soundsience Rockus 3D is the first product and it is a 2.1 speaker system with its own sound processor capable of simulating surround sound.
Soundsience Rockus 3D consists of two cylinder shaped satellites made from anodized aluminum made to minimize vibrations and distortion. The company says that its Soundsience 3D audu technology (3Dsst) will be capable of simulating 3D sound, what we call surround effects, using only two speakers. This is down through multiple DSP algorithms that calculates where and what effects that should be applied. The speakers have a regular stereo mode for regular music listening.
The two satellite speakers are completed by a passive subwoofer with a compact design (350.5 mm (H) x 195.6 mm (W) x 269.2 mm (D)) and a remote for controlling the audio system and connected units. Beside connecting to a computer there are analog and digital inputs for video game consoles, MP3 players and other sources, accessed through the remote.
