Apple iPhone 3G has been released worldwide and even if Apple has emphasized how much better it is than the 2G version, it is also supposed to be cheaper. With the limited competition that comes from Apple’s strategy of selling only through a single operator in each country. What is pretty clear is that iPhone 3G is substantially more cost efficient. According to a survey made by analyst company iSuppli, iPhone 3G costs 174.33 USD to make (8GB model) and that includes components and manufacturing costs. Costs for marketing, accessories, packaging and distribution are not included.

When Apple introduced iPhone 2G a year ago the cost was estimated to 227 USD, which shows that Apple has once again been able to reduce the manufacturing cost of its latest gadget.

They have also calculated that the deal with AT&T leaves Apple with a profit margin of 55%, something most other mobile manufacturers is most likely envy of. We are certain that the deals with the European operators are at least as favorable.
