Apple MacBook has now been officially launched by Apple and it is really starting to clean up among the older assortment. Apple launched its MacBook Pro early on as a very high performance laptop, but for those who were used to smaller and cheaper portable Macs there were only PowerPC-based models available, until now. Many has therefore been waiting for MacBook, which is expected to be a more convenient and cheaper model for those who wants to carry their Mac along. MacBook really is more convenient than its bigger brother, MacBook Pro, and Apple has decided to use a 13″ LCD display compared to the 15″/17″ with MacBook Pro. The 13″ display has a widescreen resolution at 1280×800 pixels.

This also made it possible to shrink the overall size of MacBook, except from the height as it is actually a bit thicker than the Pro model. The final measurements are 27.5mm (H) x 325mm (B) x 227mm (D) and the weight only 2.36kg (5.2lbs.), which finally means that Apple now has a true portable among its Intel-Mac assortment. MacBook comes in two different colors, the classic white and the now more popular black. That MacBook would not be able to measure up to the bigger brother MacBook Pro when it comes to performance was expected, but Apple has managed to surprise us somewhat by making MacBook really powerful despite the size.

First of all Apple has chosen to rely on Intel’s Core Duo processor with dual cores. The 2.0GHz model is the fastest you can get with your MacBook and this will most likely take you far with a 13″ laptop. You can then equip your system with 512MB up to 2GB DDR2-667 memory and harddrives ranging from 60GB up to 120GB. Other than that MacBook offer most features you can imagine, or wouild expect, such as Gigabit Ethernet, Bluetooth, integrated iSight web camera, 802.11g WiFi, FireWire etc.

Apple seems to gave created a very nice little laptop with plenty of power and a neat design. The prices start at $1099 for the most basic model, which is about half of what the introduction model of the MacBook Pro family costs.
