Apple MacBook Pro is one of the new Intel-based Macs in Apple’s assortment and since the launch earlier htis year a lot has happened with the Intel Mac platform. The most astonishing is without a doubt Apple’s Boot Camp software that lets all Mac users install Windows XP beside Mac OS X. At Anandtech they’ve published a review/article about Apple MacBook Pro where they compare it to the predecessor PowerBook G4 from several point of views. Everything from the design to the performance, at the same time they spend a lot of time with using the MacBook as a PC with Windows XP.
Both benchmarks and own experiences of Mac with Windows XP are shared in the article. They also investigate Apple Boot Camp, but also the emulator program Parallel Workstation 2.1 that lets you run Windows XP on your Intel Mac with suppport for Intel’s Virtualization Technology. This means that emulation could offer sufficient performance simply by using one of the cores of Intel’s Duo Core processor to handle the emulated OS. A solution that has some limitations, but shows some promise. The article brings up a number of questions and wonderings about Apple’s latest creation and is recommended to anyone who are intersted in Apple’s new “Intel laptop”.
