Safari has been gaining market shares as more and more have been buying Macs and the last we heard, Firefox had lost market shares while Safari was gaining. Safari is certainly a good browser in many ways, but there are some limitations here and there. By coincidence it was discovered that Safari has some serious problems with multitasking and by keeping your browser open you can lose up to 76% of your system performance, compared to Mozilla’s Firefox browser. At Macenstien they’ve published an article about the phenomena that shows that you’d better close Safari when performing other tasks.
The problem seems to be a memory leak with Safari and Apple issued a fix for this immediately after the problem was discovered. The new WebKit for Safari will in other words solve these performance problems, so all of you who are using a Mac and browse the web with Safari should really take a look at this update. If you’re experiencing performance problems with your Mac and Safari this may very well be the cause of it.
