Apple has decided to cut the prices of its iTunes Plus songs from $1.29 to $0.99. This is most likely a response to the launch of Amazon MP3 and its choice of charging only 0.89-0.99 per song, all DRM-free. It also seems that Apple is planning to add some new studios to the iTunes Plus assortment, arstechnica reports. These are supposed to be mainly indie-oriented record companies, and not any of the major record companies, but it’s still better than nothing. EMI is so far the only major company to open-heartedly drop DRM at iTMS, and according to EMI self; the DRM-free songs have been selling well. Universal Music Group is offering its music without DRM through Amazon MP3, while Sony BMG is still refusing to adapt to the market.
