Arrested for “hitchhiking” on Wi-Fi network

The security of today’s wireless Wi-Fi networks are to be honest almost non-existing especially for individuals that doesn’t even use passwords for its networks. Thus anyone can use a Wi-Fi client and use the network. This is exactly what a 41 year old man named Benjamin Smith III did when he connected to Richard Dinon’s wireless network. In difference to many users who connect to nearby Wi-Fi networks without knowing it was a bit harder for Benjamin Smith to explain why he was sitting with a laptop in his car outside Richard Dinon’s house and used his network. Benjamin was arrested in April and the question is what kind of punishment this third degree crime will result in.
