Most are struggling to upgrade their home cinema station or for that matter computer to best enjoy the new generation of HD media. Blu-ray are starting to become all the more common and Full HD TVs are getting cheaper, while 1920×1080 pixel resolution have become the latest trend among PC monitors. The next step in the development is Ultra-High Definition (UHD), according to In-Stat, and till offer up to 16 times the resolution as the HD format of today and more than twenty audio channels.
The report made by In-Stat says there will be another 10 years before we see the first UHD products. Between 2017 and 2022 there will be a plausible time frame for the UHD format to enter and the technology will offer two resolutions. The top will be 7680×4320 pixels (33.1MP) but there are plans for a lower resolution too, 3840×2160 pixels (8.2MP), which is still four times higher than the current 1920×1080 pixel resolution (2MP).
The rising popularity of high resolution digital cinema will expose consumers to high resolution content. Then, early UHDTVs will be made available to provide a digital cinema high resolution viewing experience in the home. Ultimately, broadcasters will start offering UHD content to an addressable market of UHDTVs, between 2017 and 2022.
If you think 8 speakers is hard to fit in the room, UHD will make your life a lot harder. The format is said to support 22.2 channel 3D sound, which has been indicated by previous reports. The Dolby TrueHD format of today supports up to 14 audio channels so it won’t be that much of an upgrade for those who are already up to date.
