There are more most likely more people than yours truly that use the sleep mode for when you don’t use the computer for a longer period of time. The electric bill is anything but a fun read when you have more than a few home electrics. To cleanse the computer from waste data it doesn’t hurt to reboot now and then, but despite the very latest hardware it still takes at least 30 seconds, often longer, before you’re inside Windows and can start using it.
ASUS has explored this area before and its ExpressGate technology is one way of circumventing this problem, but then you boot a stripped down Linux operating system instead and if you want to get into Windows you have wait just as long.
ASUS subsidiary ASRock has developed a technology that will enable a clean boot of Windows in no less than 4 seconds, even after shutting down completely. The technology is called Instant Boot and sounds very interesting.
Excerpt from the article:
“Two modes are available; Fast mode, which uses S3 and boots up in around four seconds, and Regular Mode, which uses S4 and apparently takes between 20 and 22 seconds to boot. The advantage of Instant Boot when compared with normal Sleep and Hibernation modes is that you get the advantage of a clean boot of Windows, without what ASRock calls ‘accumulated garbage data,’ and you also get the security of knowing that you won’t lose any data if there’s a power cut and you lose AC power.”
The technology will be available with several of ASRock’s latest motherboards based on the AMD 780G/790GX and Intel P45/43 chipsets. Those who wants to see the technology in action, or just get a good laugh, can watch ASRock’s home made video on YouTube, also found below.
