ASUS aims for 20 million optical units sold in 2006

ASUS is just getting bigger and bigger and is expanding to most areas possible on the computer part market and optical units is no exception. Despite that the market for ODD units (Optical Disc Drives) is growing at a very slow pace ASUS is hoping to increase its sales from last year’s 16 million to 20 million in 2006. ASUS is expecting that the total ODD sale during 2006 will be about 270 million units, about the same as last year where over 40 million where DVD-RW models. Blu-ray and HD DVD will hardly contribute to the sales to any major extent considering their high introduction prices.
