We recently published some information about ASUS about to acquire one of its main competitors on the motherboard market, namely Gigabyte. Now it has turned out that this information was not entirely on the mark, but that it was not that far off from the truth. ASUS and Gigabyte will namely form a joint venture to manufacture Gigabyte-branded motherboards and graphics cards. The common company, which has not been named yet will be owned 51% by Gigabyte, while ASUS will own the remaining 49%.
The new company is suppose to compete especially with other manufacturers like Foxconn and ECS. The deal is valued at $244 million and the two’s joint venture will start off on January 1, 2007 and will most likely make the situation for most competitors a lot tougher.
