ASUS presented the in-house made Mars graphics card back in 2009. The card has reached end of manufacturing by now, but it will get a successor. ASUS is working on a similar AMD model that has been named Ares. Just like Mars, ASUS has taken the two fastest GPUs on the market, then GTX 285, now Radeon HD 5870, and fitted them onto one circuit board.
AMD did this already with the launch of Radeon HD 5970, but it had to reduce frequencies to keep power consumption and heat development at decent levels.
This seems to have been solved now as ASUS is planning to release two new Radeon HD 5870 graphics cards and the frequencies will be the same as with the single-GPU version, 850/1200MHz. But there is of course even higher overclocking potential.
To accomplish this ASUS has reworked the power circuitry and designed a more efficient cooler. Something it has a lot of experience with, not the least since the launch of ASUS Mars.
