ASUS has launched one of its first specially made Radeon HD 6870 cards and ASUS HD6870 DirectCU comes with several appealing functions. First of all the more durable components and the characteristic DirectCU cooler with copper heatpipes.

ASUS threw away the regular coils, capacitors and MOS circuits and replaced them with superalloy equivalents, which ASUS claims will improve performance and lower temperatures, on the coils with up to 35°C. The lifespan more than doubles too.

With an efficient cooler and better components ASUS has made sure to give the cards a headstart from factory. With a GPU clock of 915 MHz it is just 15 MHz more than the reference, but with ASUS Voltage Tweak there is potential for up to 50% more. This will require even sturdier cooling though.

ASUS HD6870 DirectCU specifications

  • 1 120 stream processors
  • 915 MHz GPU
  • 4200 MHz memory (256-bit bus, 1GB GDDR5)
  • HDMI, DisplayPort and dual DVI outputs
