ASUS has, just as several other manufacturers, now jumped onto the HDMI train to bring more alternatives for both regular PCs and especially multimedia computers, which is often connected to TVs with HDMI inputs for both picture and sound. Separating them from the rest ASUS has launched HDMI-capable graphics from both the green (NVIDIA) and the red (ATI) team at the same time. ASUS EN7600GT/HTDI/256MB and ASUS EAX1600PRO/I/256MB are based on GeForce 7600GT and Radeon X1600Pro which both offer video playback through PureVideo and AVIVO.
Both cards are euipped with a HDMI output and a digital sound input (S/PDIF) where the latter leads the sound to the HDMI interface. This means that you can feed a HDMI image source with both digital picture and sound through the same cable. The Radeon X1600Pro-based card is also of a low-profile design to fit in multimedia computer with smaller formfactor. Both cards are available today and we are glad to see how the market is starting to fill with HDMI-capable graphics cards.
