ASUS has announced what it claims to be the world slimmest 22″ widescreen monitor, the LS221H. This monitor caters to the needs of the digital home user through several noticeable features. The touted thinness is a mere 45mm and thanks to the seamless transition between the 9H hardness-rated monitor gloss to the piano-painted glossy finish around the display, and the leather lining below it, ASUS has managed to fashion a monitor that really does look a piece of a digital home.

The anti-reflective glass has 96% transmission rate and less than 2% refection rate, which according to ASUS will result in a clearer picture and more vibrant colors. ASUS has also installed a number of LEDs into the base for some dynamic lighting effects though Light-in-Motion II.

ASUS LS221H sports 4000:1 contrast ration through ASUS Smart Contrast Ratio (ASCR) and a 2ms response time. The Aspect Control function enables switching between widescreen and regular 4:3 mode to eliminate picture distortion in both games and videos. It also has a another ASUS technology we’ve run into a couple of times;

“ASUS Splendid Video Intelligence Technology automatically corrects and constantly adjusts every detail of the image to optimize visual quality – providing deeper colors, sharper contrasts and an overall brighter picture. Five video preset modes, three skin tones, and five color temperature settings also allow users to easily customize the LS221H to their personal preferences.”

On top of the previously mentioned specifications, ASUS LS221H sports 300nits brightness, 16.7 million colors, VGA and HDMI inputs,  170°(H)/160°(V) viewing angles, and comes with a 3 year warranty. The price will be 370€. The monitor leaked about a month ago, but has now been officially launched and will become available next month in Europe.
