ASUS MARS II brings seriously turned up frequencies

Last week we reported on the new monster card from ASUS, MARS II. A graphics card with two GF110 GPUs, like GTX 590, but this is more like two merged GTX 580 cards. We understand why now, as the frequencies have been revealed and they are north of 772 MHz (stock GTX 580).

Expreview has managed to dig up the complete specifications of ASUS MARS II and they are impressive, far above most expectations. It confirms the power supply with 19 phase VRM and carefully chosen components.

ASUS MARS II with dual GF110 and high frequencies

Modell GTX 570 GTX 580 GTX 590 ASUS MARS II
Core GF110 GF110 GF110 GF110
CUDA cpres 480 512 2 x 512 2 x 512
Clock frequency 732 MHz 772 MHz 607 MHz 816 MHz
Shader frequency 1464 MHz 1544 MHz 1414 MHz 1632 MHz

Memory buffer 1,25 – 2,5 GB 1,5 – 3 GB 3 GB 3GB
TDP 225W 244W 365W ???

The card comes with 812 MHz GPU frequency, which is 44 MHz higher than GTX 580 and 209 MHz higher than GTX 590 – and increase of 34.4%. With that in mind and the power GTX 590 consumes it comes as no surprise that ASUS has equipped MARS II with three 8-pin PCI-E power connectors, with a TDP that should go above 365W with ease, but we also expect overclocking margins.

The card brings one HDMI, one DisplayPort and two DVI ports and at Computex the card is running a Crysis 2 demo on three screens and 3 240 x 1 920 pixel resolution. We don’t know when the card will launch, but it will in a class of its own, both performance and price. It will probably remain king of the hill until AMD and NVIDIA moves on to the next node, 28nm, before the end of the year.
