Asus Maximus II Formula is a member of the Republic of Gamers family. The R.O.G. series was specifically designed to meet the high demand of gamers and enthusiasts who want nothing but the very best the market has to offer. Maximus Formula was based on the Intel X38 chipset, the high-end of the Intel 3 series. One would think Maximus II Formula would be based on the high-end X48 chipset of the Intel 4 series, but in fact it’s based on the P45 chipset.

The most obvious difference between P45 and X48 is the number of PCIe lanes running between the graphics and the northbridge; Intel X48 has 32 PCIe 2.0 lanes, while P45 only has 16. Several sites have published pictures of the motherboard, and since we know that ASUS has been able to get a grip of the PCIe issues that plagued P45 earlier, it shouldn’t take long before the first review is up.

ASUS R.O.G. Maximus II Formula uses DDR2 memory, has 16-phase PWM for the CPU, 3-phase PWM for the northbridge and 2-phase PWM for the memory.
