ASUS and Foxconn are in direct competition on more than one market, but that hasn’t stopped them from cooperating on other. ASUS has been looking for a partner to outsource the production of its X series notebooks, and it seems to have found one in Foxconn Electronics. When the new X series starts shipping in January or February, Foxconn will be pumping out 40 000-50 000 ASUS notebooks per month. It is not just the manufacturing that has been revised but ASUS is also making changes to its assortment.

ASUS is all too well known for offering a large variety of alternatives, a bit too many to be completely honest, both with motherboards and notebooks. ASUS has been offering about 5-7 different specifications for one and the same notebook, but this is something that will be reduced in the future. The reason is simply to lower manufacturing costs, which becomes unnecessarily high when you have too many variations with the same computer as the manufacturing will change for each model.

ASUS will instead start focusing on making large volumes, starting September it will revise its current specifications to see how it can further improve the profitability of its growing notebook assortment.
