CeBIT is when most companies unveils their recently launched or coming products for the first time. ASUS is no exception as its coming ASUS Republic Of Gamers Pinotnoir X48 motherboard has been put on display at ASUS’ booth. It doesn’t say Intel IX48 chipset specifically, but the layout is identical to the Maximus Extreme. There’s one major difference though, and that’s the cooling. We can’t say that we were very impressed by the previous boards’ redundant use of water-cooling.
Many simply didn’t use the water cooling, which lead to inferior cooling of the chipset with some boards, and this limited the overclocking quite substantially. This was not an issue with all boards, but there are a few models suffering from it.
ASUS has solved this by equippeing R.O.G. Pinotoir with some very beafy heatsinks, to assist the water cooling. For some reason the nipples are placed in such a way that the tubes has to come from outside the case, why we’re not sure. With a Ferrari-red touch on the heatsinks and the fiery “X” on the southern chip, it does look like a demon shot out of hell.
But then we have the name, which is hopefully not final, because Pinotnoir has very little in common with the other military-inspired names (Rampage, Blitz, Maximus, CrossHair, etc.) and when we spoke to ASUS, it seemed like the name might change before the launch.
Ayway, here are the pictures posted over at Serbian overclocking forum SX;
