ASUS hsa at CES presented an armada of new motherboards for Intel’s Sandy Bridge platform. Like competitor Gigabyte, ASUS has updated its assortment of LGA1366 motherboards with the new flagship Republic of Gamers Rampage III Black Edition.
ASUS Rampage III Black Edition is a powerful motherboard targeting enthusiasts and overclockers. We find the classic goodies like physical buttons for reboot and boot on-board, measuring sports for voltages and sturdy power circuits. Other features include two SATA 6.0 Gbsp ports, four PCIe x16 slots for graphics cards and six DDR3 memory slots. As a member of Republic of Gamers it has a big emphasis on gamers, which is made pretty clear by the expansion card ASUS ThunderBolt.

ThunderBolt is shipped with ASUS’ new motherboards and is an expansion card that not only houses a powerful network processor from Bigfoot Networks, Killer 2100, but also an audio processor from ASUS’ own Xonar family. Killer 2100 needs no introduction, but is there to minimize the CPU load at online games and downloads, while the circuit also makes sure games get priority in the network stack to reduce lag and lower ping.
ASUS Xonar audio processor supports 7.1 audio through the ASUS AV100 circuit, which offers a SNR of 100dBA and EAX support.
ASUS hasn’t confirmed the price of ASUS Rampage III Black Edition, or any other information on the expansion card ThunderBolt, perhaps whether it will be sold separately. We will have more information for you soon.
