EVGA and NVIDIA took command in Futuremark’s 3D test suits when Kingpin and Shamino completely slaughtered the world records using four GeForce GTX 480 graphics cards and dual Intel Xeon E5680 processors. AMD doesn’t give up that easily though and especially not ASUS with our fellow Swedish overclockers Kinc and Elmor. During the weekend they took back the world record in 3DMark Vantage Extreme using four ASUS Matrix 5870 2GB graphics cards and a seriously overclocked Core i7 980X CPU.
Using liquid nitrogen the processor was overclocked to between 6,090 and 6,300 MHz, depending on which part of the test. The voltage was 1.85V and the temperature -170 degrees Celsius. The graphics cards were just as stressed and reached 1,374 MHz GPU and 1,290 MHz memory frequency, and they did it in 4-way CrossfireX.
Worth noting is that 4-way CrossFire beats 4-way SLI in the truly intense tests. In the other Futuremark tests the processor performance of Kingpin’s and Shamino’s system was simply too great. It all landed at X39212 points.
