ASUS have set up a big booth as usual at CeBIT and beside its latest MATRIX GTX580 graphics card it has some other extreme solutions to show and ready for ocular investigation. One of them is ASUS Rampage III Black Edition that looks aggressive with its matte black design and long list of features.
ASUS Rampage III Black Edition builds on Intel X58 chipset and supports the LGA1366 processors. Among these we find the just launched flagship Intel Core i7-990X sporting six CPU cores and 3.4 GHz clock frequency making it Intel’s most powerful CPU for retail.
Rampage III Black Edition have been out in the open since CES 2011 and as a member of ROG (Republic of Gamers) it’s a motherboard targeting enthusiasts and gamers. ASUS equips the board with a large power supply for efficient overclocking and measuring spots for voltages and TweakIt for manual overclocking directly on-board. Six DDR3 memory slots makes it possible to feed the motherboard with 48GB of RAM and with four PCIe x16 slots there is room for 3-way SLI and quad CrossFireX.
The top of it all is not a part of the actual motherboard though. The expansion card ASUS has named ThunderBolt holds a high quality sound processor from ASUS Xonar and a dedicated network processor from Bigfoot Networks. ThunderBolt will according to ASUS offer maximal audio quality and with a dedicated headphone amplifier you can even use high quality headphones. The NPU Killer NIC brings its own 400 MHz CPU for offloading the processor during online games or heavy file transfers, for less lag and better ping.
When ASUS Rampage III Black Edition lies on the shelves and what the price will be hasn’t been revealed, but expect a closer look when it happens. Until then Awardfabrik.de has some high resolution pictures to offer.
