ASUS U1F is a laptop which has lost both pounds and inches to become as slim as possible. ASUS seems to have done a great job and the key is the 11.1″ LCD panel. That the panel is small is one thing, but the technology behind it is what really makes a difference. ASUS has namely chosen to use LED backlighting, which has made it possible to reduce the thickness to half of that of a normal LCD panels and a third lighter. The LED technology also reduces the power consumption, but still sports better brightness and faster response time.
ASUS U1F is of course for the ultraportable market and weighing only 1kg (2.2 lbs.) this should certainly become a hot new contender. Under the hood we find Intel’s Core Duo platform and a low voltage processor, Core Duo U2400, and practically the same specifications of other full-size laptops. ASUS U1F has thrown out the optical unit to save weight and space, but you get an external unit instead. The price of this lacquer-finished computer is about $2,000 and it should arrive in March.
