Athlon 64 X2 has been very coveted ever since AMD first launched it as its first dual-core processor series for desktops. The biggest problem, except for bad availability, is the prices of the new X2-processors. The cheapest model, 4200+, is listed at $537. You need a quite large stash to to jump onto dual core as of today. Although AMD seems to be going for a new , even cheaper and of course slower, model, namely X2 3800+ that will cost “only”$345. The processor will most likely be clocked at 2.0Ghz and have 2 x 512KB L2 cache. If DigiTimes’ information is correct Athlon 64 X2 3800+ should arrive on August 1st. Source: DigiTimes
