AMD has now officially launched its latest addition to the Athlon 64 X2-series, which is AMD’s dual-core based processors for desktops. The best thing with AMD’s new model, Athlon 64 X2 3800+, is quite simply the price. The X2-series has been far out of reach for the common man since its launch because of the high prices. But now there is a cheaper version available and at Anandtech they’ve taken a closer look at this processor. Based on the Manchester core 3800+ works at 2.0GHz and has 2 x 512KB L2 cache. The price is much more humane $350 and the question is if this will be the optimum choice for anyone wanting to get on the dual-core wave and not spend an entire fortune just on the processor.
