Socket AM2 is less than a month away now as AMD has moved the launch forward to May 23 and the first samples have already started to appear around the web. At ChileHardWare they’ve managed to come across a Socket AM2 processor, Athlon 64 X2 4000+, and they’ve posted some pictures of the new deliciousness. Just as expected the physical differences between the Socket AM2 processors and its Socket 939 siblings are very few, physically speaking. The only really visible difference is the branding and the number of pins that have been increased to 940 and with a slightly different layout. They are still waiting for a motherboard to try the processor out, but we should be able to expect some benchmarks relatively soon.
