For about a week ago the 30000 points limit was broken in 3DMark2001 by the american Oppainter which with help from an Athlon64 FX system managed to reach 30014 points. With this AMD managed to squeeze ahead of Intel in the 3DMark race which during a long time has been dominated by Intel’s Pentium 4 Extreme Edition.
Now also an Athlon64 3200+ has managed to pass Fugger which has gotten 29391 points at most with his P4 EE system.
Not fully unexpected is it in the hands of the finnish overclocker guru Macci that this Athlon64 3200+ system exists. With a dual cascaded compressor cooler (CPU = -90C, GPU = – 85C) Macci has now taken his system very close to 30k with a point of 29991 (!).
Even if Oppainter now has increased his points to 30221 Macci’s Athlon64 system is very close despite that it is missing support for Dual channel DDR. How this is possible can be explained that Macci has managed to increase the “processor bus” to 327 MHz (!!) and runs his DDR memory in DDR536 with 2-2-2-6 timings.
The processor is running at 2.95 GHz and the graphics card (9800XT) at enormous 627/453 MHz.
This is overclocking at extremely high level and it shall be very interesting to see how our contenders in the Swedish performance contest can stand against international competition.
