Small preview imageATi recently published its figures for the third quarter which ended May 31. The sales went up by almost 8%, I.e. $39 million to $530 million, compared to 2004.  Despite this ATI went from a total net plus of $49 millions in 2004, to a negative $10 million. ATI’s VP has announced that the cause of this are the delays the company has suffered, both because of new manufacturing processes and its development of the Xbox 360 graphic circuit. Thus it seems ATi has had the same problem nVidia had when developig its circuit for Xbox; losing focus on the PC-market.

However at ATi they are enthusiastic before the launch of Crossfire and R520, that will be launched later this summer. There have been rumours about September but the question is whether ATI can keep up with nVidia and launch R520 as early as claimed and be able to have cards actually available in stores. Things are looking grim and most likely there will be more delays. nVidia should be able to play it cool the next couple of months and dominate as much as they please with its new 7800-series.
