ATI has with its Catalyst 6.10 driver given official support for accelerating the Folding@Home client, a purpose which has turned out to fit ATI’s latest graphics cards perfectly. We know that Folding@Home is a project which is used to find cures and remedies for diseases, but you need extreme performance to be able to do this in a decent amount of time. But the question is why ATI has started to look at general purpose GPU and specifically F@H. At Chile Hardware they’ve now published an interview with ATI about this and how ATI’s GPGPU will work in the future.

It has hopes for optimizing the already impressive performance with up to 200% already in a few months. In other words, there is still a lot to do when it comes to the GPGPU implementation in F@H.
