ATi R580 ready for manufacturing

We are still awaiting ATi’s next generation circuit called R520 but the successor, R580, is already ready to be made. ATi has according to The Inquirer recently “taped out” the R580-circuit, which means the circuit is ready for manufacturing. It took ATi four “tape outs” before R520 becane reliable but R580 is apparently already ready at the first try. Pressumably it has learned from the R520 mistakes when it comes to 90nm circuits. Exactly when we will see R580, except for after R520, is uncertain. But it looks to be a much less painful launch.
