ATI has as we have earlier reported received a lot of ciritcism for advertising support for HDCP with its graphics circuits despite that ATI’s video cards actually don’t support the technology, which is a specification for Microsoft’s Windows Vista operating system. ATI changed the information found at its webapge after these complaints, but that doesn’t mean that consumers who bought ATI-based video card, believeing that they were HDCP compatible, have given up. ATI has now been sued by Stanley Batsalkin and Kenny Vargas, both for their own sake and other consumers’.
The reason is the misleading marketing of HDCP compatible video cards that in fact are not capable of handling HDCP protected signals. Whether the suit will enter the court room or not remains to be seen, but it’s still a pretty tight spot to be in.
