Karolinska Institutet is one of the most prominent medical universities in Europe, which hardly belittles the fact that Bill and Melinda Gates have been dubbed honorary doctors of medicine. The reason is as you might’ve suspected their work through the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, where they donate money to reduce inequities and improve the health, care and living of people in desperate need. They receive this distinction not just because they donate money to the needy but because they’ve been working to improve the situation in the long run and doing so methodically based on scientific methods to ensure the money comes to good use. So far they’ve donated over 7.8 billion dollar to help others. The Gates couple will receive their honorary distinctions next month during the annual promotional ceremony at Stockholm City Hall.
